The CTEP immersion program was helpful in illuminating the steps required to comprehensively synthesize published scientific data to answer clinical questions generated from the practice setting. Performing a review of literature has been a task I have done hundreds of times in the development of research projects and scientific manuscripts and so I thought I understood how to answer a clinical question. But after the immersion, I realized I had little knowledge of the EBP process. The CTEP immersion was instrumental in increasing my abilities to formulate a structured, searchable question to lead me to the evidence needed to answer questions! The process of searching databases was addressed during the program with the help of an expert librarian—what a difference that made for me! After completing the week-long class, I feel refreshed in appraising evidence and compiling the body of evidence associated with my topic with much more confidence.
"In my role within a complex healthcare organization, the immersion program motivated me to consider how evidence can be effectively provided to decision-makers in healthcare to improve the problem-solving choices we make. Whether decisions are being made related to direct patient care or purchasing new equipment, evidence-informed decisions are always an improvement. In addition, we have reflected on the importance of how the results of our evidenced-based practice projects are presented to decision-makers. The tools and templates that CTEP has developed have made our EBP presentations easier to read and interpret which, we believe, enhance the probability of evidence being incorporated into critical discussions and decisions.
